Bulkamid for Bladder Control
Bulkamid® may be right for you if you struggle with bladder leakage when you sneeze, exercise, laugh, cough, or during other physical activity that puts pressure on your abdomen.
These symptoms are often caused by weak pelvic floor muscles, which can occur with age and after pregnancy. They affect 1 in 3 women at some point during their lifetime.
How it Works
Bulkamid® is a water-based gel that is injected into the wall of your urethra, just under the inner lining. The gel adds volume to your urethra, which helps prevent urine from leaking out of the bladder during normal daily activities.
Injecting Bulkamid is a simple procedure typically performed under sedation or light anesthesia. First a numbing agent may be applied to the injection site. Then 3-4 small injections of Bulkamid will take place. The entire procedure lasts about 15 minutes.
Bulkamid has shown to provide relief for at least seven years in the majority of patients receiving the procedure.
