UroLift® Q & A

What is Urolift?

Urolift is an in-office treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also called an enlarged prostate.

The team at Spokane Urology uses the Urolift system to rapidly relieve the symptoms of BPH. This minimally invasive treatment can also reduce your reliance on BPH medications that might not be working for you.

How does Urolift work?

Your prostate gland sits below your bladder. Through this gland passes your urethra, the tube that carries urine out of your body. When you have BPH, the enlarged prostate tissue presses on the urethra, making it difficult for you to pass urine.

The Urolift system uses small implants that hold enlarged prostate tissue away from the urethra. Your Spokane Urology provider places the Urolift delivery device in through your urethra. A small needle comes out of the delivery device to place the permanent implants into the tissue. After they remove the device, your urethra will be open so that you can urinate freely.

The procedure doesn’t take long. You can receive a local or general anesthetic to keep you comfortable while the implants are put in place. When your treatment is done, you can expect to return home soon afterward to recover.

How long until I can see the results of Urolift?

Urolfit requires little or no downtime. Your Spokane Urology provider can discuss what to expect in the days after your procedure.

You might experience mild discomfort, pain when urinating, and/or blood in your urine after receiving the Urolift implants. These issues get better on their own in the weeks after treatment.

Many men begin noticing a reduction in BPH symptoms within two weeks after the procedure. The team at Spokane Urology will monitor your recovery and symptom relief to ensure that you’re happy with your results.

What are the benefits of Urolift?

The Urolift system is an effective treatment that quickly relieves the symptoms of BPH. This therapy also provides long-lasting results that start soon after treatment.

The implants reduce or entirely get rid of the pressure on the urethra that causes your symptoms. The implants won’t interfere with your sexual function like other BPH therapies, including medications, can.
